Congratulations to Crisis Center Volunteer of the Year Heather McDonald

Heather McDonald

Heather McDonald joined us as a Crisis Center Volunteer in 2016 and has done more than we ask of our crisis volunteers by making herself available to be placed on call. Just this past March alone, she came in five times! Of those five times, she came in twice within a 24 hour period: once from 1:30 to 6:45 a.m.; then again that same day she returned at 9 pm to volunteer until 1 a.m. Most recently, a worker called her at 11 p.m. asking if she could come in to help supervise eight children. Heather explained that she was on the tail end of an illness and said that if they couldn’t find anyone else, she would come in. The worker agreed, but once off the phone became busy with the care of eight kids. Heather called back for an update and the worker apologized stating that she was too busy to call anyone. Heather said “I’ll be there in less than 30 minutes” and arrived before midnight. For taking the call and rising to the challenge when our kids and our staff needed her, we are thrilled to recognize Heather McDonald as our 2019’s Crisis Center Volunteer of the Year.
